Why the true cost of dental implant treatment goes far beyond the initial price? And why choosing a clinic you can return to matters?
A dental implant treatment should be an investment in your health, function and quality of life. But what happens when the treatment that initially seemed like the most affordable option becomes a much bigger problem years later?

Almost every week we receive a message like this one.
Someone travelled abroad years ago for a “full set” of implants at a price that seemed too good to pass up. Problems started almost immediately — loose components, wrong‑sized parts, implants that never quite fit. They pushed through.
A decade later the gum and bone have receded, the implants are exposed, the bite is failing, and the whole lower set has to come out.
They write to us hoping we can fix it.
We have to say no! Not because we don’t care. Because taking over another clinic’s work is where things go wrong a second time. Unknown implant system, no records, no imaging from the original surgery, years of hidden damage – no responsible surgeon can safely inherit that.
When comparing dental implant prices, are you looking at the cost of the procedure — or the long-term cost of living with the result?
Our policy is simple and applies to both our clinics, in Sofia and in Stockport: we only treat implants we placed ourselves. For everyone else, the right answer is the clinic that did the work, or a local oral surgeon who can assess you in person.
This is the real cost of the cheapest option. Not the price on day one – the years of problems after, and discovering the clinic that placed them has stopped answering.
We make sure that, for our own patients, “the original clinic” is always there.
The real cost of choosing implants based on price alone
Dental implant treatment is not simply about placing a titanium implant into the jawbone. It involves diagnosis, treatment planning, surgical precision, appropriate implant selection, prosthetic design and long-term maintenance.
Every stage contributes to the final outcome! When comparing treatment offers, a significantly lower price may reflect differences in what is included, the materials and systems used, the complexity of the treatment plan or the level of aftercare provided.
A low initial price does not automatically mean poor treatment. Equally, a high price does not automatically guarantee a successful result.
What matters is understanding exactly what you are paying for.
Before making a decision, consider:
Implant system: Which manufacturer and implant system will be used? Are the components documented and identifiable for future maintenance?
Clinical expertise: Who will perform the surgery, and what is their specific experience in implantology and complex full-arch cases?
Diagnostic planning: Does the treatment include an appropriate clinical examination and 3D CBCT assessment?
Prosthetic quality and design: What materials will be used, how will the restoration fit, and will it allow effective cleaning and maintenance?
Aftercare: Who will monitor your implants after treatment, and where can you go if something needs attention?
Long-term accountability: Will the clinic have access to your records and remain available to manage your case in the years ahead?
Why the implant system and clinical records matter
One aspect patients rarely consider before treatment is what happens if they need assistance several years later.
Dental implants are not interchangeable components. Different manufacturers use different implant connections, dimensions and prosthetic components.
If the original implant system cannot be identified, or if the relevant surgical and prosthetic records are unavailable, planning future treatment can become considerably more difficult.
A responsible clinic should maintain comprehensive records of the treatment performed, including the implant systems and components used, diagnostic information and relevant clinical documentation.
This information can be essential if maintenance, repairs or further treatment are required.
It is not just about the day of surgery. It is about making sure your treatment remains traceable and manageable in the future.
Why continuity of care matters
For patients travelling abroad for dental implant treatment, aftercare deserves particular attention.
The geographical distance between the patient and the treating clinic can become a practical challenge when an appointment is needed for a loose component, a damaged restoration or a routine clinical review.

These are not minor details. They are essential parts of responsible implant treatment.
It’s exactly why we built our care differently.
